Writing About My Mother
I've been writing a blog about my mother's journey with Alzheimer's. These short entries include me, as I am her only child, and my kids. My mom passed away this month and I'd now like to expand this blog into a book-length work. As I shift from my own therapeutic writing to storytelling for a reader, I'd like to make it a hybrid of non-fiction and fiction--based on stories she told me. It's not a biography, but it's not my own story. It's our story. Need guidance as I make this shift. Thanks!

  • Deirdre, Thanks for sharing your story about your blog and your experience with your mother's journey with Alzheimer's. I would suggest you join the National Association of Memoir Writers. Here is the link: http://namw.org/. They have some great resources for writers of book-length memoirs. There is also a book they have written on Writing as a Healing Journey. I think you will find that of use as well. Please stay in touch and keep us informed about your writing journey. --Phyllis
