Who am I
I'm a poet. I grew up in rural Tennessee among sharecroppers and cotton magnates, hardscrabble farmers and one aristocrat. I began writing poetry in law school to escape the tension and boredom of death by law.
I've pretty much done with my life what I've wanted: poet, freelancer, investigative journalist and muckraker, professor, bookstore owner, dairy farmer, cab driver, and social change gadfly.
I taught creative writing at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and at Skagit Valley College. I ran for political office but failed miserably. The Madison WI Equal Opportunities Commission granted me its 20th Anniversary Award for Community Organizing in the LGBT and Women’s communities.
I currently live in Milwaukee, WI.
Books I've written, anthologies I've contributed to and any scripts or plays I've authored
Two chapbooks (Book Barrow Press); numerous publications in literary journals; and one play, "The Crossing," about hardship and death in crossing the U.S .-Mexico desert.
