I am a former ballet dancer and software engineer. In 2009, I turned to writing in order to process the ordeal of micro-preemie twins born nearly four months before they were due. I am the co-founder of Moxie Road Productions, a founding member of the 501(c)3 writing group Write on Mamas and web maven for Litquake, San Francisco’s annual literary festival.
I am the author of Brain Changer: A Mother's Guide to Cognitive Science and SPINNING: Choreography for Coming Home, a memoir about the death of a career but the birth of miracle twins. SPINNING was a 2017 semifinalist for Publisher Weekly's BookLife Prize.
In 2016 I was honored to receive the Elizabeth George Foundation Fellowship from Hedgebrook in addition to the gift of a Hedgebrook residency.
I live in Oakland with my husband and three children. My heroes are Gloria Steinem, Pope Francis, and Dmitri Shostakovich.
