I'm Kara, and I've wanted to be a writer since I was 9 years old. My grandmother, Chickie Mallan, is a successful writer and gets paid to travel the world. I wanted that. I started in my teens writing some sort of Danielle Steel-y type erotic romance fiction, and then realized I love creative non-fiction, more Erma Bombeck than Hunter Thompson. I also realized that my family was far too useful as fodder.
I have been a Marketing Assistant for the last ten years and, upon the impending doom of my 35th birthday, I decided it was time for me to do what I wanted to do when I grew up. I finished all the important parts of my degree in writing, leaving math and science behind, which also meant leaving my degree behind. I found this to be the biggest obstacle when I am applying for writing jobs, so I'm back at school now completing my degree in Journalism.
