Who am I
Karen Connelly is the author of nine books of award-winning poetry, fiction, and nonfiction. The New York Times Review of Books likened her writing to that of Solzhenitsyn, Mandela, and Orwell. While much of her work is based on her experiences in Asia and in different parts of Europe, her forthcoming book is a collection of poems about living in Canada: oh canada crack my heart. Her most recent book, the memoir Burmese Lessons, a love story was shortlisted for two of Canada’s premier nonfiction prizes, the B.C. National Nonfiction Award and the Governor General’s Award.
She is also the author of the internationally acclaimed novel The Lizard Cage, a novel about prison life in Burma, which won Britain’s Orange Broadband Prize for New Novelists in 2007, was shortlisted for the U.S. Kiriyama Prize, and has been optioned for film. She lives in Toronto (and hangs out in Greece) with her husband and son.
