This is so fascinating.  My daughter is 6, and I took her to see the violinist Joshua Bell this past weekend.  I was sitting there thinking - there are so many more women than men who study violin, and yet almost all the "grand soloists" are men....

I have had articles published and not told a single soul that I know.  For me, it's partly (okay, mostly) that it's much easier to write for people who don't know me than to have people I know read my writing and know my innermost thoughts....

Thanks for posting this - though I must say that as a mother of a five- and a two-year-old and a beginning writer, I am most discouraged to hear that you don't think it's that much easier when they get older! This reminds me of a film I saw...
