A native of Columbus, I received a BS from University of Pennsylvania and an MA in Journalism from The Ohio State University. Early in my writing career, I worked as a magazine journalist for local, regional and national publications, including TIME and The Detroit Free Press, and later served as a corporate communications and public affairs executive within the cable television and broadcasting industries in New York City. I co-authored The Real Life Nutrition Book, published by Penguin Books in 1992.
As a strong advocate of education, literacy and the arts, I have played a leadership role in a number of civic and community organizations over the past two decades in Columbus, Ohio where I relocated in 1987.
I began studying creative writing in 2008 and my first novel,Tasa's Song, was published in May of 2016 by She Writes Press. I am the owner of Gramercy Books, a curated independent bookstore in Bexley, Ohio, and I am an assistant editor at Narrative, an online literary magazine. I continue to write--I had an essay published by Full Grown People in May of 2017, I write the monthly blog for my bookstore's website, and I'm working on a historical novel of linked stories. Community work, my family and friends, and road cycling fill My non-writing life is filled with family and friends and several avocations: I am a road cyclist, (I train for a 50-100-mile ride every August to support cancer research), I love reading (what writer and bookseller isn't?), watching great films and TV series, listening to music (I am a rock fan), attending concerts and theatre, and traveling.
