My creative background is a mash-up of writing, music, acting; photography and, in more recent years, novels. As one who always saw my art—whether screenplays, songs, theater, the articles I wrote, even the pictures I took—as mediums for telling stories, it was a logical leap to move into longform once I had narratives worthy of the format.
My first novel, AFTER THE SUCKER PUNCH, as well as my second, HYSTERICAL LOVE, are contemporary literary fiction that follow protagonists on their particular journeys toward transformation. The former is the year in the life of a woman whose father’s posthumous journals reveal he thought she was a failure; the latter, a man whose shattered romantic life impels him onto a wild quest to find his dying father’s lost love. Both use a generous mix of humor and pathos to tell their tales.
My third novel, THE ALCHEMY OF NOISE, takes a more dramatic turn in a narrative exploring issues of racial conflict, police profiling, and cultural prejudices found in both the public and private lives of an evolving interracial relationship… a sociopolitical love story that is timely and controversial. It is prepping for early 2019 publication with She Writes Press.
My most recent screenplay, A MINOR REBELLION, is a "rock & roll dramedy" about a former 80s rock singer who's thrown into her long-buried past when her daughter secretly—and successfully—posts her old music on the Internet. It has been chosen an "official screenplay selection" for the 2018 Beverly Hills Film Festival.
Concurrent with my writing projects, I work with a band called Sixth & Third.
My art is my expression, and I write what I love to read: compelling stories about flawed but authentic people wrapped up in life, love, friends, family, existential questions, and ultimately some very real human conclusions.
