From farming to winemaking to exploring the challenges of being an unknown in the California wine world, author and award-winning winemaker Paula Moulton has now ventured into the international world of wine.
Paula Moulton is a successful entrepreneur, viticulturist, award-winning winemaker, and published author with over 25 years of experience in the wine industry. She has been on the forefront of sustainable and biodynamic winegrowing and worked with Sonoma industry leaders like Benziger, Joel Peterson of Ravenswood Winery, and Phil Coturri from Enterprise Vineyards.
And yet this was not enough for Moulton.
"There was something missing from my knowledge of wine," says Moulton, "I wanted to learn the Old World style of wine and bring it back to the New World to inspire a cutting-edge movement all wine connoisseurs including Millenials could buzz about."
“And so I recently took ten months out of my life, moved to Paris, and enrolled in a wine management program to learn anything and everything there is to know about the international world of wine: terroir, the growing practices of other countries, the other thousands of grape varieties that I didn’t know, and most of all, how to smell, swirl, and taste some of the finest wines of the world.”
Moulton passes her wine course earning the prestigious Le Cordon Bleu Wine Management degree in Paris, France with twenty other international students. She is back in the United States and brings her newfound knowledge with the release of her second book Seasons Among the Vines: Life Lessons From California and Paris.
After her international wine exposure, Moulton discovered a major flaw for wine consumers worldwide; the power to choose wine was primarily dictated by elite ranking systems not the consumer. This discovery led to the inception of A Sip Away, her innovative wine platform that aims to democratize wine and empowers consumers with a new way to choose the wines they drink. She has since been giving keynote speeches, teaching at prestigious institutes like Ramekins, and educating consumers on how to sip, savor, and share their own wine experiences.
Her unprecedented story and select classes teach the art of being an expert wine taster and demystify the complexities of food and wine pairing using proven Old World techniques blended with New World practices in a unique and unparalleled style.
Most of all, Moulton is an advocate for educating wine drinkers of all levels and expertise.
Paula has appeared on the Today Show, CBS, NBC, ABC, FOX, CRN and other major media outlets. She holds a BA from U. C. Berkeley in Rhetoric and an AS in viticulture from Santa Rosa Junior College.
