I bought a Kindle about a month ago. I like it. I read Wolf Hall on it and it was a lot easier than holding that brick over my face in bed. I think the Kindle is good for authors because there is no secondary market. Everyone who buys your Kindle edition pays the same money and you get your cut. It doesn’t hurt that a lot of classic novels are available for little or no money. Check out the complete works of Robert Louis Stevenson! That includes the poetry! I once priced a printed edition and it was a few hundred bucks at least, so arguably the Kindle has already paid for itself. Am I going to read the complete works? The chances of my doing so have improved. I pick up the Kindle while waiting for my laptop to boot or do some other thing, waiting for someone to email me right back, or when I'm on hold. It sits open on my lap very nicely while I eat something requiring both hands. The progress bar gives me a sense of accomplishment. At my stage in life, when I am trying to figure out how to have less stuff and more space in my house, the Kindle might just allow me to get rid of some books!
