A big kid at heart with a love for stories.
Hello everyone. My name is Angela and I am a longtime fan of reading and writing. I am nearly 30 and have been working at the Walt Disney World Resort since I graduated college in '03 with a BA in theater- one of my other passions.
As a child, I was often writing and illustrating (though rarely finishing) my own stories. I took creative writing in high school, although I struggled because my stories had always been more geared towards children, and the class focused more on writing for a teen or adult audience. I let story writing go for a while after that. In 2005, I was accepted into the Institute for Children's Literature and took their start up course which took me two years to complete.
After working a theme park job for so long, I thought that I would like to do something else with my life. I thought that maybe I had a future in graphic design so I started working towards an associates degree at a local community college. What I discovered was that I had no passion for it whatsoever.
I remembered the course I had taken before at the Institute, how much I enjoyed writing stories as a kid, and how I still loved reading middle grade fiction from the library. My passion was in being creative with words...not pictures. I was pursuing the wrong career. I realized I needed to get back into writing which had always been my strong suit. I was in honors English classes throughout high school, had won a grade wide essay contest in 3rd grade, and had also had an essay published in the readers column of the travel section of the local paper as an adult. I decided to make a renewed effort to write as my New Year's resolution. So far, I have written a short story nearly every month. Next year, my goal will be to finally complete something of novel length.
