I just found out that Don't Kill the Birthday Girl: Tales from an Allergic Life, which was published in July by Crown, is a nominee for a Goodreads Choice Award in the "Food & Cooking" category.
This is thrilling because I did nothing to apply--the recognition came organically, based on their analysis of statistics from the 87 million books rated and reviewed on the site in 2011. They narrowed it down to 15 books each in 22 categories, 330 total. Nominations are based on a book's number of ratings and average rating (here are mine) as pegged by the more than 6 million members on Goodreads. So this is truly from the hands of readers, which means so much to me.
The category of "Food & Cooking" is a little daunting, though. Blood, Bones & Butter? "A Year in the life of El Bulli"? Gwyneth friggin' Paltrow? Other people's covers have gorgeous harvest-fresh bruschetta. Mine has a cupcake decorated with a skull. Wearing a party hat.
I need your help. If you're game to support my book, please consider logging in to vote--it takes 2 seconds (you can use your memberships in Goodreads, Facebook, or Twitter, all free).
Readers have THREE chances to vote:
Opening Round: October 31 – November 13, 2011
Voting open to official nominees (incl DKTBG) and write-in votes.
Semifinals: November 14 – November 20, 2011
Goodreads adds the top 5 write-ins as official nominees. Write-ins no longer accepted.
Finals: November 21 – November 30, 2011
The field narrows to the top 10 books in each category. Learn more: http://www.goodreads.com/blog/show/314
...and if you are also a nominee, please name yourself and your book in the comments!

Oh, I love my cover! And I can say that unabashedly, since I did not design it. = ) But I recognize the thematic difference in tone. Glad it gave you all a smile....
