YVETTE HEYLIGER is a playwright, solo performer, director, producing artist, teaching artist and author. Look for Yvette’s recently released collection of plays entitled, What A Piece of Work Is Man!: Full-Length Plays for Leading Women. Recently her monologue, On the Brink of Middle Age, first published in Reproductive Freedom Festival Plays by indietheatrenow.com, was selected by Applause Books for their collection, Later Chapters: The Best Scenes and Monologues for Actors Over 50. Yvette is the recipient of the AUDELCO Recognition Award for Excellence in Black Theatre's August Wilson Playwright Award for her play What Would Jesus Do? and a Best Playwright nomination from the NAACP’s Annual Theatre Awards for her published play, Autobiography of A Homegirl, selections of which were published in Smith and Kraus’ The Best Women’s Stage Monologues 2003 and The Best Stage Scenes 2003. Other publications include Bridge to Baraka: The Pen Instead of the Gun which was published in the anthology, 24 Gun Control Plays and on line at www.StageReads.com; her plays White House Wives: Operation Lysistrata!, and Bridge to Baraka are published on line by www.indietheaternow.com. A producing artist and partner in Twinbiz™, she is the co-recipient of the first National Black Theatre Festival Emerging Producer Award. An activist, Yvette is a founding member of Organizing for Action; she has held leadership positions with or served on committees with the League of Professional Theatre Women, 50/50 in 2020 and Women's Initiative (made up of members of the Dramatists Guild); and she is a member of the Harlem Arts Alliance. Yvette holds an MA in Theatre Education from Hunter College; an MFA in Creative Writing - Playwriting from Queens College; MA and BA degrees from New York University. She lives in Harlem, USA.
