I'm in the middle of writing another romance novella, the latest installment of "The Affair with Mr. X." It's hit a little snag, so I thought I’d take a break and tell you about a post I did for Angela’s Booth’s Fab Freelance Writing blog entitled, How to Suck Readers into Your Story from the Start.

Strangely, I almost never have a problem with the beginning or end of a story; it's at about the half-way point that I tend to get stuck. It’s like the story balls itself up into a voluminous, tight knot of tangled thread; one I have to spend days unwinding.

Then, like magic in most cases, the story will unfurl and practically write itself. I guess I bring that up to remind you to just write through the tangle. Eventually, how the story is supposed to unfold will reveal itself, and you’ll be off to the writing races again.

Anyhoo, I digress; back to the post on Fab Freelance Writing.

I am promoting my first traditionally published book (The Ultimate Freelancer’s Guidebook), so I reached out to the webmaster to ask if she’d be receptive to me submitting a guest post. She responded, in part writing:

Readers are asking for more information on writing fiction than on anything else at the moment …

So I came up with the idea for the above-mentioned post. It got really good feedback, with one writer on Twitter even tweeting me saying, “Thank you for this! I found it extremely helpful:)

I hope you do too.

Romance Writing Tips: The Complete Series to Date

FYI, I’ve written a series of tips on how to write romance. I still consider myself new to the genre. I've written well over 50 non-fiction books (mostly on freelance writing), but I've only been writing romance since 2013. And even though I've completed 40+ novellas, I'm still on the climbing up side of the learning curve.

The following tips are ones I’ve picked up since I started this genre of writing that I wrote down --- more to keep  in mind for myself when I did find myself, for example, stuck or needing one more way to describe a certain body part – LOL!

    Carson:

The links in the romance writing tips section have been fixed. Thanks for the heads up.

As for more than "write through the tangle," the first article referenced (http://fabfreelancewriting.com/blog/2016/09/11/writing-fiction-suck-readers-story-start/) is full of tips.

Again, thanks for letting me know about the broken links. I hope you find the info useful, and good luck with your writing.

Feeding back with hope and affection: The links for the 17 tips don't lead to tips, or a page of yours. As a non-fiction writer I was hoping to learn if there was crossover knowledge about hooking readers from the first words... and you seem to be the lady who could deliver, but "just write through the tangles" was not what I was hoping for. Hope you will fix these links and/or say more.
